Each year, Pantone, the global authority on color for fashion and home, announces their color of the year. Last year, turquoise won out, and is still very popular. This year, the vibrant, bright, happy hue Honeysuckle is Pantone’s pick for this year’s IT shade. A “dynamic reddish pink, Honeysuckle is encouraging and uplifting. It elevates our psyche beyond escape, instilling the confidence, courage and spirit to meet the exhaustive challenges that have become part of everyday life.”
I love that for fashion this spring and summer, shades of pink are everywhere. Definitely a shade that screams happy and fun! From shorts to dresses to nail polish, Honeysuckle (and similar shades) is popping up on runways, in fashion magazines and at the mall. It’s a great shade that can be worn anywhere, by any one!
HOW TO WEAR IT
For summer dresses, try a fun pink dress — strapless or one-shoulder options are on- trend and will keep you cool. ALWAYS keep the pink to a minimum, try floral shorts (another big trend), flirty sandals or a belt to add a pop of color. For evening, try a pretty summer scarf to ward off the chill or don sweet skinny jeans with a crisp white linen blouse.
WHAT TO WEAR IT WITH
When wearing something this bright, it’s always wise to wear accessories in a dark neutral, such as a deep brown, to keep the look grounded and centered. Metallics, such as gold and pewter, will also look nice, although you should stay away from anything too flashy — and stay away from glitter and sequins or else you’ll look like a pageant girl. You can keep accessories muted and soft, or you can make a statement and go bold and earthy. Try linen, cotton and canvas, or leather, straw and wood. Mixing materials and textures is key.
