Summer Wear for Women – the Color of the Summer

Each year, Pantone, the global authority on color for fashion and home, announces their color of the year. Last year, turquoise won out, and is still very popular. This year, the vibrant, bright, happy hue Honeysuckle is Pantone’s pick for this year’s IT shade. A “dynamic reddish pink, Honeysuckle is encouraging and uplifting. It elevates our psyche beyond escape, instilling the confidence, courage and spirit to meet the exhaustive challenges that have become part of everyday life.”

I love that for fashion this spring and summer, shades of pink are everywhere. Definitely a shade that screams happy and fun!  From shorts to dresses to nail polish, Honeysuckle (and similar shades) is popping up on runways, in fashion magazines and at the mall. It’s a great shade that can be worn anywhere, by any one!

HOW TO WEAR IT

For summer dresses, try a fun pink dress — strapless or one-shoulder options are on- trend and will keep you cool.  ALWAYS keep the pink to a minimum, try floral shorts (another big trend), flirty sandals or a belt to add a pop of color. For evening, try a pretty summer scarf to ward off the chill or don sweet skinny jeans with a crisp white linen blouse.

WHAT TO WEAR IT WITH

When wearing something this bright, it’s always wise to wear accessories in a dark neutral, such as a deep brown, to keep the look grounded and centered. Metallics, such as gold and pewter, will also look nice, although you should stay away from anything too flashy — and stay away from glitter and sequins or else you’ll look like a pageant girl. You can keep accessories muted and soft, or you can make a statement and go bold and earthy. Try linen, cotton and canvas, or leather, straw and wood. Mixing materials and textures is key.Wedge sandal, summer bracelet, gold earrings, gold clutch, flower tote, statement necklace, gladiator metallic sandal, mini wedge sandal

5 Different Ways to Wear your Little Black Dress

Versatility in your wardrobe really helps to maximize what you already have in your closet.   The infamous little black dress (LBD) is just like jeans, it’s one of the greatest fashion innovations ever….thank you Coco Channel!!!  LBD is a must have piece in your wardrobe.  If you were anything like me a few years ago, I had about 5 different LBDs.  Now that I’m a mother of two, I’ve decided that being practical is a must.  3 years ago, I narrowed my LBD selection to the one that I ware the most.

When you are evaluating which LBD or what LBD you should have, imagine something basic, classic and versatile.  Your little black dress should be a dress that you can build upon.  A little black dress goes a long way if you have the right accessories.  It is definitely not something that shouldn’t be worn  just once.  Here is one LBD that can be worn at least 5 different ways!  There are many other ways to wear it, but these are just something that you can start from.  I used neutral colors, so imagine how many other outfits you can create with color!!!  Transform and maximize the coveted LBD.  It’s all about accessories and it’s all about your personal style.

1)      Rocker chic – leather bomber jacket, mixed chain statement necklace, diamond studs, gladiator sandals.

2)      Military inspired – Military jacket,  animal printed scarf, neutral wedge, brown wide stretch belt, hoop earrings, layered bracelet, cocktail ring.  Want to know more about scarves click on the link – how to tie a scarf

3)      Casual Fridays – belted cardigan, black ballet flats, lariat necklace, layered gold bangles, detailed hoop earrings.

4)      Cocktail Party – Lace skirt, detailed sling back heel, statement pearl necklace, vintage pearl earrings, and cocktail ring.  What I like about this look is the lace skirt.  If your black dress is fitted enough (comfortably fitted, not obscenely fitted) slide a detailed skirt over the black dress to give it a different look.

5)      A day in the Office – trench coat, peep toe pumps, bib necklace, silver drop earrings, cocktail ring.

I’d love to hear your comments.  Do you wear your little black dress more than one way?  How do you wear your LBD?  Are you ready to maximize how many times you can wear your little black dress?
