What are your thoughts on transitioning your wardrobe from Summer to Fall?

Keeping Style Simple with Jeans and a T-shirt

Today’s post is about “keeping style simple”.   Are you a girl who loves to wear jeans and a t-shirt? Is that your standard outfit? Or is your baby 6 months old and are you feeling like you have no style in your wardrobe? Or are you 40 and trying to figure out if your wardrobe is age appropriate?  Here is one outfit with 4 different looks, by just changing the accessories (jewelry, shoes, scarves). The staple pieces are denim jeans and a white t-shirt.  Here are the reasons why I chose a boot-cut jean and a 3/4 sleeve t-shirt.

My preference is a BOOT-CUT Jean. Flattering on almost any body shape, primarily because the slight flare at the bottom balances out any curviness in the hips. If you want a staple item in your wardrobe, I highly recommend a 3/4 Sleeves T-shirt because its flattering on any arm…need I say more!?

Outfit 1: Update with easy to wear on-trend jewelry – Clover Key Necklace layered with  Chelsea Necklace in Hematite. These are both necklaces that I would consider every day pieces. The are two pieces I wear a lot, both layered and separately. The Soiree Studs are an adorable earring that we’ve just added to our Spring Collection and they are a great all around basic pair. Last but not least – black flats, another staple item you should have in your wardrobe! Just make sure your boot cut jeans are hemmed correctly for wearing flats. It’s never attractive to have your jeans “puddling” at your feet.

Outfit 2: A great ‘wear it now’ outfit, for the colder weather. A loosely wrapped scarf in a tribal print is very hot right now, and the trend will continue into the spring. The right jewelry is key with this look. I love gold with tribal prints, so the Rio Chandelier earrings and Bardot Spiral Bracelet in gold are great choices for this outfit. The green Camilla ring gives an unexpected punch of color. Add a strappy heeled sandal for spring or a brown boot for winter.

Outfit 3: A touch of animal print is always an unexpected twist – especially with a sparkling statement necklace like the Metropolitan Mixed Chain Statement Necklace. The Glint Flower CZ earrings is the way to go with this outfit. You definitely don’t want to over accessorize when you wear a statement piece like the Metropolitan.

Outfit 4: I love this look and I love statement pieces. Make a statement with the Casablanca Bib necklace. Finish the look by layering the Prosper beaded bracelet and gold devi bangles. Layered bracelets are a huge trend from the fall and winter that will continue to the spring and summer.

See? Accessories make all the difference. I love how the four looks are completely different, and all you would have to do is add accessories. Try it and you’ll find that you feel better about yourself and exude a new kind of confidence.

Are you willing to take two extra minutes to change up your look? Which of the above four looks is your favorite?

Modern Day Woman Uniform

Who doesn’t love wearing the “modern day women” uniform – great pair of fitting jeans and a t-shirt!? It’s what I love to wear everyday. I like to kick it up a notch with fabulous Stella & Dot accessories from keeping it simple with everyday pieces (plural because I love to layer) to creating a focal point with a gorgeous statement piece! Most of the statement pieces that I love to wear give me a confidence boost, they can easily change your mood and change a look of drab to fab!

How Do You Know if you have Enough Accessories?

I really believe that it is the accessories that make an outfit, and I mean it’s more than just throwing on a necklace.  It’s the finishing touches that make an outfit – a jacket, a scarf, a pair of sunglasses, a clutch, a pair of fabulous shoes, etc. It’s more than just throwing on a necklace.

Wondering if you have not enough accessories on?  Maybe too much?

My customers really enjoy this tip and use it often and then share it with their friends.  It’s called the “the 16 point accessory rule”.  I found this great tip from Shari Braendel‘s book Good Girls don’t have to Dress Bad a style guide for every woman.  This is a great tool to evaluate every morning before you head out for the day.

Are you ready to count? Let’s get started with your shoes and head upward. Give yourself:

1 point for each of your shoes

1 point if you have a pretty pedicure and it is showing because of open-toe shoes

1 point if you have on fashionable tights or leggings (no points for regular pantyhose)

1 point for each garment you have on. If you garment has more than two colors, give yourself an additional point. For example, if you have on black jeans, a black jacket, and a multi-coloured blouse, you get 4 points total (one point each for your jeans and jacket, and two points for the multi-coloured blouse).

1 point if you are wearing a belt

1 point for each of your rings (wedding ring sets receive one point for the complete set)

1 point each for any watch, bracelet, or bangle

1 point for a necklace (if your necklace has a double or triple strand or is very large, give yourself two points)

1 point for each of your earrings

1 point if you are wearing glasses

1 point if you have makeup on

1 point if you’ve had a compliment on your hair in the last two weeks (more about this in chapter 6 [of Good Girls Don't Have to Dress Bad])

1 point for nice nails (Thy don’t have to be professionally manicured, but they do have to look taken care of. No chipped polish, please.)

1 point for your handbag if you will be carrying it 100 percent of the time; if not, don’t give yourself a point

1 point for a shawl, hat, scarf, wrap, or other add-on accessory item

That’s it! Now add up your points and determine your score. Here’s what your number means:

0 points: Well, you’d be naked!

12 points or under: Girlfriend, you need some accessories. It’s time to run out and get some NOW!

12-14 points: Almost there, but not quite. Where can you add something? Do you need another bangle? How about another ring? Maybe you need to paint your nails.

14-16 points: Well done, my friend. You’ve got it goin’ on!

Over 16 points: Too much, girlfriend! Take some things off till you settle at 16.

Enjoy!
